"Be a voice for your Island", says chair
Manx residents are being urged to submit an application to join the Isle of Man Planning Committee as a lay member.
It comes as Peter Young retires from the committee after 15 years.
The planning committee says candidates do not need formal qualifications but should have strong local knowledge, including an appreciation of Manx history, geography and social issues, as well as a genuine interest in public life.
It adds; good interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with an ability to consider differing viewpoints and represent the wider public interest.
Onchan MHK Rob Callister is the committee's political chair:
Applications for the position are now open and close at midnight on Wednesday, 17 December.
On his retirement, Mr Young says: ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Committee. This role is an opportunity to contribute to decisions that help shape the Island’s communities, and a chance to be a voice for the people of the Isle of Man.
‘What we’re approving will be here for our children, even our grandchildren for the next 50-60 years, so this is an important position.’
The Planning Committee meets every two to three weeks to consider around ten applications per sitting.
Government says, to support the efficient operation of the Planning Committee, the Council of Ministers has approved a 'phased approach' to recruitment.
It means one lay member will be appointed immediately, with further appointments anticipated in mid-2026
