
Constabulary will be given access to UK's ANPR database this month
The Isle of Man Constabulary believes the introduction of automated number plate recognition software at the Sea Terminal will help protect the Island against 'significant threats'.
This month police will be given access to the UK's ANPR database to enable manual searches for vehicles on the system.
Its introduction was announced in government's 'Securing Our Island' strategy which said its use would 'help identify terrorists, criminals and vehicles used for criminal purposes'.
Superintendent John Phillips says although the Island is one of the safest places in the world it needs to be protected against organised crime groups.
