'Angry' politicians call on IoM Bank to reconsider charity charges

Tynwald motion passed seeking bank to change fees

Politicians spoke of 'anger and sadness' at charges from the Isle of Man Bank onto charity accounts - and is asking the organisation to reconsider its decision.

The motion was brought to the Tynwald chamber by Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson:

After a lengthy debate, members unanimously voted that charities and other not for profit clubs, societies and associations, should have free access to basic banking.

An amendment from the Treasury Minister was brought forward, which was then amended by MHK Lawrie Hooper - both carried in the final vote.

The motion, as amended, also calls for Treasury to consider how legislation could be introduced to make basic banking free for such organisations.
