The latest attempt to revamp the Legislative Council will be made this morning (Tuesday).
Onchan MHK Peter Karran – a member of the Keys for nearly 30 years – wants to introduce a bill which would ultimately require members of the upper house to be popularly elected from 2018.
Under his plans, MLCs would not be able to be ministers or serve as members of government departments and would also have to work under amended pay and conditions.
After various unsuccessful attempts to have members of the upper chamber elected by the public, Mr Karran says it’s time to see exactly where MHKs stand.
