Ambulances called to Island's schools 13 times in last school year

Figures released as part of a Freedom of Information request

Ambulances were called to primary or high schools across the Isle of Man thirteen times in the school year of 2022-23 - over double that of any previous year on record.

That's according to figures released as part of a Freedom of Information request.

The statistics also reveal that emergency services were called for a member of staff, or student, seven times from 2023 to present.

The lowest number of callouts was in 2020-21, when only one ambulance was called - presumably as schools were shut several times that year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The statistics in full:

• 2018 - 2019 = 2
• 2019 - 2020 = 3 
• 2020 - 2021 = 1 
• 2021 - 2022 = 6 
• 2022 - 2023 = 13 
• 2023 - present = 7

The response, from the Department of Education, Sport and Culture, does not reveal the reasons why medical professionals were requested.
