Amber warning as Island faces flooding and high tides

High tides, big waves and heavy rain forecast for today (Fri 31 Jan) could mean more flooding misery for Island residents.

A high spring tide is expected to bring waves as high as four metres to break over promenade walls up and down the east coast, throwing up substantial amounts of water, stones and other debris.

The heavy rain is forecast for between early to mid-morning and late afternoon, causing localised flooding, swollen rivers, and standing water on the roads.

Some roads and promenades in the following places are being closed between 10am and 6pm; Castletown, Shore Road / Gansey, Laxey, Douglas and Ramsey

There's also the risk of minor flooding around inner harbour areas in Castletown, Douglas and Ramsey.

Meanwhile, a red warning is likely to be issued by the Met Office for Saturday (1 Feb) with more significant tidal flooding expected.

Sandbags are being distributed, or you can pick them up from all four of the Island's civic amenity sites.
