Banks Circus could not accommodate fleet of electric vehicles
Government says it would have to relocate the Island’s main bus depot if it were to switch to using electric vehicles.
The Department of Infrastructure doesn’t believe the Bank’s Circus site is suitable for charging the transport.
This is due to its size and the lack of power infrastructure which the department says would be costly to install.
Alternative locations are being considered as part of a new bus strategy.
Minister Tim Crookall and Deputy Chief Officer Jeffrey Robinson gave evidence to the Environment and Infrastructure Policy Review Committee.
However they warned any alternative options won’t be coming forward in the near future:
