Alleged £9,830 cocaine plot foiled

Man and woman deny producing class A drug

A man and a woman from Douglas are accused of being part of a plot to bring thousands of pounds worth of cocaine to the Island by post.

Jonathon Edward Myers of Broadway and Leanne Corlett of Cronk-y-Berry appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

Thirty-seven-year-old Mr Myers pleaded not guilty to producing cocaine to the Isle of Man but admitted possessing cannabis.

Forty-four-year-old Miss Corlett also denies producing the class A drug and attempting to possess it with intent to supply.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing Post Office workers called in police after spotting a suspicious parcel headed to an address in Ballaoates Road in Strang.

When it was opened, officers found 19.8 grammes of cocaine inside, with a street value of £9,830.

A decoy package was put in its place, and the court heard Mr Myers and Miss Corlett were arrested at the address, along with a third man who didn't appear in court.

Magistrates granted both bail, and they'll next appear in court on 17 September.
