Abortion Reform Bill passed by LegCo

Amended document to go back to Keys

The Abortion Reform Bill has passed its final hurdles in the Legislative Council.

The clauses stage and the bill's third reading were carried out today, after members suspended standing orders so both (rather than just the former) could be done.

Almost 80 amendments were made, which will be considered by the House of Keys at a later date.

The bulk of those were for legal clarification, but also included one from Kerry Sharpe MLC.

That was relating to the respectful disposal of foetal remains.

Amendments put forward by the Lord Bishop were rejected.

Local pro-choice group CALM has responded to the news, saying today is a 'good day for the women of the Isle of Man'.
