Hooper suggests day off to boost voter turnout
An MHK has suggested having a national holiday on election days in a bid to boost dwindling voter turnout.
Lawrie Hooper says it might encourage those with busy working lives to engage with the democratic process, and could raise the profile of elections.
Today in the House of Keys he'll ask Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas whether the 'day off' proposal has been considered.
Mr Hooper thinks such a move may boost public engagement:
Consultation open on plans to formally recognise the heritage of Douglas Head
Drop-in session to support Isle of Man charities
Fundraiser to keep St John Ambulance emergency fleet on the road
Ayre and Michael MHKs request meeting with commissioners over rates
