56 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours

Active number of cases rises to 369

There have been 56 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

It brings the active number rise to 369, with eight now being treated in hospital.

The update was provided at this afternoon's media conference hosted by Chief Minister Howard Quayle.

Director of Public Health Dr Henrietta Ewart says 135 of that active number are in children and young people, representing 36 per cent. 

Mr Quayle reiterated the importance of staying at home at this 'critical time', urging people to be patient with the emergency 111 support team, currently under a lot of demand.

Health Minister David Ashford says the vaccine programme is being 'ramped up' this week, but supply is still a major variant in the rollout.

He commented on a the number of vaccines shown in stock, explaining it's not the case that the department is 'holding' large amounts of the vaccine.
