£500 fine for coach trip visitor who became disorderly

Drunk 63-year-old told hotel worker: "I'll kill you"

A tourist from Oakham - who was visiting the Isle of Man on a coach trip – has been fined £500 after becoming disorderly at her hotel.

Desiree Curtis, of Coniston Road, was arrested at The Rutland Hotel in Douglas at around 8.30pm on Sunday (2 October).

She’d been asked to move to a seat, in the entertainment room, but became ‘belligerent’.

When the 63-year-old, who was intoxicated, was refused further service she began swearing at staff telling one staff member: “I’ll kill you.”

Curtis was asked to leave due to the fact she was interrupting the live entertainment – she refused and police were called.

At Douglas Courthouse Curtis pleaded guilty to displaying disorderly behaviour on licensed premises.

Her advocate told the court she had ‘limited recollection’ of the incident adding: “She is extremely embarrassed and ashamed.”

Imposing a 12-month licensing ban, and ordering her to pay prosecution costs of £125, Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks told Curtis: “I don’t doubt the way you behaved would have been shocking.”
