No compulsory retirement age for teachers says DESC
A quarter of all teachers working in schools on the Isle of Man are over the age of 50.
The figure has been revealed by the Education, Sport and Culture Minister.
There are 110 teachers aged between 50 and 55 and there are 92 teachers who are aged 56 or over.
Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse told Julie Edge this was different from claims made by a teaching union:
The Department of Education, Sport and Culture does not operate a compulsory retirement age for teachers.
Teachers who are under the age of 30 make up 17 per cent of the workforce.
