Looking at the famous Isle of Man seaside holidays exemplified by the Louise Wain postcard cats which were yesterday’s joyful, reliable and regular emails. The early 1900s saw the Golden Age of Manx Tourism, with often 30,000 visitors arriving in the space of 24 hours. In 1913 more than 630,000 visitors arrived, most of them from the better off working class of the mill towns of the North West who had saved up all year for their week’s holiday in the Isle of Man. The holiday and the fun began on one of the large fleet of Isle of Man Steam Packet boats. The Exhibition is based on private postcard collections, supported with books and archive materials. Tea and cake, bonnags, fruit pies, fruit loaves and other Jurby Church cakes 23 May to 6 June.
